Quinta da Gaivosa 1999, Douro 85.00

Only the best grape varieties in the region were used to create this superb wine. It has notes of red berries and oak spice. Harmonious, complex and with good oak integration, it offers a rich palate of berries and a hint of chocolate. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cão.

Lagar dos Saraivas 1999, Douro 87.00

This well balanced, full-bodied wine has an intense dark ruby color and nuances of purplish red. The nose is extremely complex and fragrant, revealing a surprising aroma of butterscotch, unusual for a wine from the Douro. After it's been open for a while, it reveals aromas of black cherry jam, blueberry and hints of licorice, eucalyptus, coffee and vanilla. These complex aromas manifest themselves on the palate as well. The finish is very persistent with long and pleasing hints of black cherry jam and black currant. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca.

Post-Scriptum Chryseia 2002, Douro 94.00

Chryseia, which in Greek means "of gold" is the literal translation of Douro and pays tribute to the use of classical winemaking techniques in one of the world's oldest demarcated wine regions - the Douro. This wine, similar to the original Chryseia (released back in 2000) but made for earlier consumption, is a full-bodied, elegant wine, vinified in the traditional Bordeaux manner using grapes from some of the region's finest estates. On the nose it exhibits notes of chocolate and licorice with some herb-tinged fruit. The palate shows a huge concentration of black fruit flavors and the elegance of a well-structured port, without the high alcohol and sweetness. The tannins are assertive, yet soft under the fruit. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tintas Pinheira & Roriz.

Quinta Vale Dona Maria 2004, Douro 96.00

This full-bodied wine is beautifully fragrant, with an intricate nose of Darjeeling tea, licorice and fig compote. On the palate, it has notes of ripe strawberries, sweet currants, spices and peppery oak. The tannins are strong but pleasant and its acidity makes for a well-balance wine with a long and lingering finish. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela.

Vinha do Fojo 1999, Douro 126.00

A deep concentrated purple wine with an opaque core. Elegant, round and mellow, with notes of ripe berries, plums and subtle oak. On the palate, it offers rich flavors of black fruits and spices. Full-bodied, with round tannins, it pairs well with gamey dishes and hearty cheeses. Grapes: Tintas Francesa and Roriz.

Duas Quintas Reserva Especial 2000, Douro 135.00

A very powerful and complex nose of ripe black fruits with a hint of herbal influence and subtle tarriness. The palate is concentrated and bold, with rich firm fruit, good acidity and spicy tannins. This is a delightful accompaniment to codfish dishes and most meat dishes. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.

Quinta da Manuela 2000, Douro 140.00

A multifaceted-colored wine, with tinges of dark red, violet and garnet, Quinta da Manuela has a discreet and yet seductively feminine nose of jasmine, violets and cloves. The palate however, is a masculine one, with a robust flavor of dark fruits, such as black cherries and plums. The tannins are soft and well integrated and the wine exhibits good acidity and structure, leading to a medium to long finish. A true delight! Grapes: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional.

Callabriga 1999, Douro 140.00

Full-bodied and elegant, its bouquet is intense and complex with notes of red currants, cherry and nuances of cedar and eucalyptus. The palate is equally complex filled with delicious notes of raspberries, black currants and plums. Well structured, its acidity is discreet and the tannins are fine and well integrated, offering a lingering and complex finish. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca.

C. V. (Curriculum Vitae) 2003, Douro 145.00

This remarkable wine is the result of the collaboration between Sandra Tavares and Cristiano Van Zeller, two leading oenologists in Portugal. They named it Curriculum Vitae to allude to the fact that it was an important moment in their winemaking careers. This is an incredibly deep colored red wine with an intense nose of spices, chocolate and stewed black fruits. Aged in 100% new oak casks, its palate is mouth-filling with flavors of plums, chocolate, coffee and a hint of leather. The tannins are smooth and the wine is balanced, showing great finesse and a long and memorable finish. Grapes: Tourigas Franca, Roriz & Amarela.

Quinta da Carolina 2000, Trás-os-Montes, Douro 150.00

A true "boutique" wine by renowned wine maker Jerry Luper, a Californian transplant who has been living in Portugal for the past nine years. Bottled in September 2001, after spending one and a half years in small American, French and Portuguese oak barrels, this full-bodied wine has a delightful nose with a floral touch, noticeable toasty oak and vanilla. Its involving palate offers flavors of dark plums, cherries and bittersweet chocolate interlaced with the boldly structured acidity and tannins. Grapes: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa and Tinta Carvalha.

A brilliantly dark, luminous ruby in color, this wine's intense, expressive nose combines scents of earth, tobacco, chocolate and plums. Richly textured, with smoky, flowery sweet fruit flavors that are accented with rosemary and exotic spices, it has a long savory finish. Quinta do Crasto Vinha da Ponte 2004, Douro 165.00

This is a superbly rich, complex and well-balanced wine and one of Portugal's best. On the nose it has notes of blackberry, violet and oak spices. On the palate, vibrant and intense flavors of raspberry, cassis and bitter chocolate lead to a memorable, lingering finish. Grapes: Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional.

Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional 2003, Douro 185.00

Considered to be part of the new generation of "Super Douro" wines, and deservedly so, Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional 2003 is seductive and delicious in every possible way. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months, its nose is smoky and complex with notes of concentrated ripe red fruits and spice. The palate is equally rich, loaded with ripe concentrated fruit, well integrated oak, good balance and finely structure tannins. It is a delightful accompaniment to game and roasted salt cod. Grape: Touriga Nacional 100%.

Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz 2003, Douro 185.00

Also considered to be part of the new generation of "Super Douros," this wine is made with 100% Tinta Roriz, long recognized as one of the premium grape varietals in the region for the production of high quality Ports. Foot trodden in lagares (granite tanks) the wine was fermented in open stainless steel tanks before being run off into French and American oak barrels to complete the fermentation, where it subsequently matured for 18 months. Bottled without fining or filtration, the wine shows smoky characters with intense varietal fruit flavors of spice, pepper and berry aromas. The palate is richly textured with ripe concentrated fruit flavors, well integrated oak and firmly structured tannins. Enjoy it with ripe cheeses, codfish dishes and lamb stew.

Fojo 2000, Douro 220.00

Maria Serôdio Borges is slowly but surely joining the anals of great womn who made the Douro -- and it shows in this wine. Made from very old vines (over 100 years) this wine exhibits a great nose with depth and complexity - notes of strawberries, raspberries and a touch of minerality and soft spices. On the palate, it is a pleasure to sip its full body, well-integrated tannins and acidity, with flavors of dark fruit compote and a hint of vanilla due to its aging in French oak. Grapes: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca.

Barca-Velha 1999, Douro 350.00

Long considered an icon of the Portuguese wine industry, having attained worldwide cult status, Barca Velha is the result of perfect blending of wines produced from A-rated vineyards grown at Quinta do Vale Meão, Quinta da Leda and from the high-altitude vineyards of the Douro Superior. The harmony and complexity of this wine are impressive. It has a radiant purplish color and a seductive nose with notes of violets, dark berry fruits and dry vegetal aromas leading to a floral finish. Its palate offers notes of ripe plums, blackcurrants, vanilla and a bit of spice. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels, it has good acidity, flavor concentration and fine tannins, and offers a persistent and memorable finish. Grapes: Tintas Roriz and Amarela, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.

Quinta do Moinho 2001, Vinho Regional Beiras, Bairrada 94.00

Made from 100% Baga, this wine, although young, is already showing lovely characteristics and has thus far developed quite well in the bottle. Rich, full-bodied and with a beautiful garnet color, it has an earthy nose, typical of Bairrada's clay soil. It has notes of black cherry compote, which carry through on the palate. Marked tannins are well integrated into this full-bodied wine. Enjoy it with roasted codfish dishes.

Quinta dos Carvalhais Touriga Nacional 2000, Dão 93.00

In order to retain its intense character, this wine has been bottled untreated in the traditional manner. It has lively acidity and is well balanced by the powerful and concentrated tannins. On the nose it has notes of ripe blackberries with caramel and herbal notes. The palate is spicy with bold fruit and it offers a long and elegant. Grape: Touriga Nacional 100%

Aliança "Dão" Particular 1992 95.00

This exquisite red wine offers a complex bouquet with hints of chocolate and berries. Light and smooth on the palate, it is a delightful accompaniment to codfish dishes and cheeses. Grapes: Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro Preto.

Qta. de Pancas Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 2003, Estremadura 90.00

Bottled at the estate of Pancas, this exquisite wine is aged on average for one and a half years in new French and Portuguese oak barrels, and has now reached its peak. Full bodied and complex, it is a superb accompaniment to creamy cheeses, red meats and wild game. Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon 100%.

Cortes de Cima Incógnito 2003, Alentejo 85.00

Deep red color and its aroma is a powerful mix of ripe, raisiny red berry fruits, a touch gamey, with vanilla and toasty oak adding to the overall complexity. The palate is luxurious, with ripe, creamy fruit in harmony with the rich tannins and soft sweet oak. This is a huge wine with loads of flavor and enough depth and concentration to ensure longevity in the bottle. Grapes: Syrah 100%.

Dona Maria Reserva 2004, Alentejo 98.00

An extremely elegant and complex wine, its color is a deep garnet, and the nose has a tremendous concentration of mature dark red fruits, with a predominance of blackberries, black cherries and plums and hints of mint and spices. Aged for 12 months in French oak, the palate is equally intense and round with smooth tannins and a very long and memorable finish. Grapes: Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Aragonês and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Esporão Garrafeira 2001, Alentejo 100.00

Aged for 18 months in new French Oak barrels, this deep garnet wine shows an intense and complex nose of berry fruit, spice, vanilla and coconut. It's wonderfully rich and concentrated on the palate, with a pronounced spicy character. Grapes: Alicante Bouschet and Aragonês.

Cortes de Cima Reserva 2003, Alentejo 112.00

It's a pleasure to sip this elegant, full-bodied wine which shows tremendous complexity on the nose and palate. Its bouquet has notes of spices, dark fruits (plums and berries) and hints of tobacco and toasty oak. On the palate, it offers notes of supple fruit, mint and chocolate. Well integrated tannins offers and pleasant and memorable finish. Enjoy it with codfish and hearty cheeses. Grapes: Aragonês and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Marquês de Borba Reserva 1999, Alentejo 117.00

The grapes for this exceptional wine are harvested by hand. Part of the harvest is foot trodden in traditional shallow, open marble troughs, known as "lagares". Deep ruby in color, full-bodied, complex in texture and well balanced, it has a pronounced jammy nose of raspberries and cocoa-accented fruit. The palate offers notes of raspberry, truffles, minerals and smoke with smooth, fine grained tannins. A big wine, with brilliant earthy fruit that is drinking well now and that will continue to develop depth in the cellar. Grapes: Trincadeira, Aragonês, Castelão Francês, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bousch.

Mouchão 2002, Alentejo 120.00

An immensely complex and elegant wine, full-bodied with an intense nose offering hints of sage, green olives and stewed black fruits. On the palate, it has notes of ripe red cherries and pomegranate with chewy but well integrated tannins. Aged for two years in French oak barrels, it is well structured and offers a memorable and delightfully lingering finish. Grapes: Alicante Bouschet and Tinta Roriz.

T Quinta da Terrugem 2001, Alentejo 150.00

Full-bodied, with a powerful nose of scented toasty oak and alcohol, although not dominant, it is underpinned by hints of peppery blackberries and blueberries. On the palate, it has an opulent concentration of lovely spicy, wild berry fruit and sweet coconutty oak. It is a superb accompaniment to gamey dishes, sausages and creamy cheeses. Grapes: Aragonês and Trincadeira Preta.

A lively garnet wine with aromas of raisins, berries and plums, complemented by the wood used in aging to its fine depth. This wine is velvety and harmonious, has a rich body and balanced tannins that ensure a lengthy finish and longevity. Grape: Trincadeira 100%.

Mouchão Tonel 3-4, 2001, Alentejo 240.00

Considered an icon among Portuguese wines, this rare bottling is entering our wine list for the first time in 2007. Simply put, this is a fantastic wine, full of expression, complexity and spice. The grapes are still foot trodden in a stone lagar (open fermentation tank), a gentle way of extracting the juice and fermentation occurs in French oak barrels. Opaque, dark and inky, with an intense nose of fig compote, leather, spices and tobacco leaves. The palate is equally rich, showing great concentration of sweet, ripe fruit with lovely spicy complexity and fine-grained tannins. Grapes: Alicante Bouschet and Tinta Roriz.
